Lines in the Air

I'm just a child
Trying to draw a line
In the air
When I look for the clear distinction
there's nothing there...

Like sparklers in the night
The glowing thread may burn a moment
But then fades to nothing
to something
I never meant...

Trying to draw...
Trying to draw a line in the air...

I have enough smooth edges and to spare...

I need clarity
Something that's clear to me
Something I can give to others and let them feel
The line the world's shadows try to steal

Oh,
Just a child
trying to understand
linking mismatched pieces in my hand
And when I step back
the picture makes no sense
Drawing a line in the air
It makes no difference...

Somehow I just can't put it all
into a perfect whole
the whites of eyes so bright with love
have turned as black as coal...

Something says to give it up
To let it rest as is
But I can't just put the pieces down
I can't make myself turn around
I'm already on this path and walking
away from the monochrome tones
Stalking me

I've gotta find the truth
I have to know for sure
Drawing a line in the air...

Drawing a line in the air..

Drawing a line...

A line...

There's nothing there

...
